FREE Worksheet to Help Your Students GET STARTED Making a “PLANT CELL MODEL”

This FREE worksheet requires students to research online what each organelle (or cell part) looks like in a plant cell, and then come up with an item to represent each cell part. The worksheet is also EDITABLE!! So modify it to fit your GRADE LEVEL or student needs. Great for distance learning!  Click here to download the worksheet from my tpt store.

It also includes FREE LABELS for students to cut out and use to identify the different parts in their cell model.

PLUS, it comes with an example video of a plant cell model that was done. See the example video below.

Create a Chloroplast Model

I love teaching photosynthesis but I have noticed that students struggle remembering the organelle where it occurs.  So I created this chloroplast lab activity where students get to create their own chloroplast model!  The best part is that it is edible! Who doesn’t love to learn and eat?

This activity would be great as a distance learning lab too!  I created a YouTube Video that shows step-by-step how to create the model so students can easily follow along.  Now if you wanted to do this activity in class, I would recommend that the teacher creates the tiny little pancakes (which represent the thylakoids) so students don’t risk burning themselves.  If they are doing it home, I would recommend that parents created the tiny little pancakes.  Watch my YouTube video to see exactly how the tiny thylakoids are made.

My chloroplast lab write-up is also free + plus I included FREE labels in case you wanted students to label the parts of the chloroplast.  You can download it on my tpt by clicking here.

Thanks,

Mrs. G

Create an EDIBLE Mitochondrion Model
My daughter , Harley, showing off her Mitochondrion model.

Every year when I teach cellular respiration, my students always struggle remembering the organelle where it takes place (well, at least aerobic cellular respiration).  Students can’t recall what it looks like or get it confused with a chloroplast (which is the organelle where photosynthesis occurs).  So, why not make students create a mitochondrion model?

We already know that hands-on activities can take learning to a whole new level.  Students tend to remember the information better when they see it, play with it, and why not eat it? I don’t even go that in depth on what is exactly in a mitochondrion.  I just want my students to recognize it.  So I created this mitochondrion model lab that is free! You can download it here on tpt (click here)

It is editable, google docs! So you just have to make a copy then you can use it and edit it to fit your students’ needs or grade level.  It can also be a great distance learning lab! I created a YouTube Video showing how to create the mitochondrion model.  Often students can get confused when doing labs, and wonder if they are completing a step correctly.  So, to help guide students, I made a video that shows step-by-step how to create the model.

My activity even comes with

(1) FREE Lab write up

(2) FREE Vocab Cards

(3) FREE Labels to identify the parts of the mitochondrion

Once again, you can pick this activity up for FREE on my tpt store by clicking here and downloading it!  Also, don’t forget to follow me for more freebies, sales, and more!  Here is a link to other cellular respiration activities that you may want to use for your classroom.

Thanks,

Mrs. G

A fear that many teachers face is having a room full of students with  nothing to do.  If this happens, the class could become chaos in a matter of minutes!  This could happen if  you have too many students finish their work early and you do not have anything else for them to do.

The early finishers might get out of their seat and bother the other students who are trying to finish their work.  Then what happens if admins decides to walk into your class?  Ahhh…… it could be chaos!

So, here are “10 Time Fillers to Use in the Classroom” to save you when you are in a tight bunch and need a filler activity!

Time Filler Activities

(1) Generic Word Search Puzzle – This word search puzzle could be used anytime!  It is made up of 23 words that describe how to get on the right path to becoming successful!  For example,  one of the words is persistent!  You have to be persistent to get what you want in life, like a great job!

(2) Three Things I Learned Today – This is a great activity to have your students complete after they finish a lesson!  It requires students to write, draw, and reflect upon what they learned that day.  Students will list three things they learned that day and draw a picture for each of them, and then write a 4-5 sentence summary incorporating what they learned for the day.

(3) Find the Answers! – This activity gets your students thinking!  I teach high school biology.  So I get every type of student.  Often, I see students who never thought they were compatible of going to college or really even thought about it.  I like this activity because it shows those students are having a little more education can make a huge impact in their life financially.  This activity is great because it just gets your students thinking about furthering their education.  Sometimes I even give a piece of candy to my students after their finish it.  I love reading these to get to know my students better.

(4) Find the Hidden Words & Objects – Students love mysteries! In this activity, students will look at picture of a classroom scene and try to find 3 hidden words and 3 hidden objects! Students love this activity!  Who doesn’t love playing detective!  It is also nice to have a brain break from the normal classroom work! Plus, if admin works into your classroom, the words the students are looking for are: (1) respect, (2) listen, & be (3) helpful.  You can tell admin that you like to review/remind students occasionally of the classroom rules.

(5) Decode the Hidden Message – This is another detective activity for your students!  Your students will decode the hidden message using the key (which is the hidden message decoder).  The message reads, “Help a student finish a missing assignment to receive a special treat!”  This activity is great because students do not know what the special treat is and you can make it whatever you like.  Sometimes I give out a piece of candy, other times I give out a homework pass or extra credit!  This is great to use on a makeup day when some students are all caught up and they have nothing to do.  They can help your struggling students who need a little more guidance.
